About our association

In November 1998, committed citizens from Barth and beyond founded our non-governmental registered support association “Documentation and Encounter Center Barth e.V.”, DOK-Barth in short, which currently has about 20 members.

We initiate, accompany and support research, dialogue and educational work on regional history between 1933 and 1945.

The central emphases of our work are the Barth Concentration Camp and the memorial to the victims, as well as the site and memorial to the Stalag Luft I prisoner of war camp.

The fates of people who were persecuted, deported and killed are being researched and documented in collaboration with historians. Contemporary witnesses of former Concentration Camp inmates and prisoners of war, but also citizens of Barth were interviewed in order to secure traces of the past. The members of the association maintain many contacts with the families of the victims and survivors. Another focus of our voluntary work is the organization of conferences, meetings, and we have initiated discussions between contemporary witnesses, Barth citizens, pupils and students.

Our permanent exhibition on Barth during 1933-1945 conveys the main results of our work and is open for the public. However, the concentration of the armaments industry, military training, forced labor, concentration camp and prisoner of war camp in one town during the Nazi era is a rare occurrence and still requires a great deal of research.

You are welcome to get in touch with us using our contact details (see impressum).

We appreciate donations for our work:
